Feathered Crop

This plugin allows for cropping your image, both inside or outside, and to add feather to the cropped borders. It can also fill in the outside of the cropped area with color and add border to your cropped image. Graphic UI available. Supports 8, 16 and 32 bit depth. In Premiere Pro it works in RGB and YUV color spaces.

Feathered Crop interface

Supported software

  • Adobe Premiere Pro, versions CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.
  • Adobe After Effects, versions CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.

Supported OS

  • Windows 7 64-bit
  • Mac OS X 10.6.x, 10.7.x, 10.8.x

Installation

The plugin comes without an installer. Please unpack the downloaded file and copy it to Adobe’s Media Core folder, so that both applications will see them.

The folder can be found on Windows here:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS6\MediaCore

and on OS X here:

MacHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore

Substitute CS6 for your current version. If you have multiple versions installed, simply copy the plugin to each of the folders.

The plugin will show up as “CI Feathered Crop” under “Creative Impatience” group of effects.

If you keep getting error messages on Windows platform, or the plugin fails to show up, you might need to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package, available from the Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632.

Download the plugin here.

How to use it?

The plugin should be pretty self-explanatory for all of you impatient types, just apply it and start experimenting.

hello, thank you very much for your feathered crop effect. Re: installation, when I follow the thread you suggested, there is no Plug-ins\CS6\MediaCore in Common.

    Please advise.

    All the best,

Are you on Mac or on Windows?

    • BartW says:

Unfortunately I have no way of checking Lion, however I’m a bit surprised that this folder does not exist. You might try creating it (assuming you’re on CS6), and putting the plugin there, and see if it works.

    • Sean H says:

Make sure you clicked on the Mac Hard Drive in Finder, then Library, then Application Support, etc.
If you navigate to your user’s home directory, then Library, you won’t find it.

  2. Arthur says:

    Hi, Bart,
Many thanks for the great job.
Having problem to seeing plugins in Premiere CS5. After Effects seems working O.K. (When I start AE it says plugins…. not loaded properly but I see them)
As per your suggestion I put downloaded files in: (Windows) Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS5\MediaCore folder.
I have Production premium CS5 suite. Any suggestions what is wrong?
    Arthur

    • BartW says:

Make sure you have the proper version downloaded (CS5/CS5.5). The fact that AE tells you they didn’t load properly, something is indeed wrong. Premiere is dead silent and simply does not show the plugins, so the behavior seems to be fine… I have an idea, but it will take a moment. I will send you a file directly in the evening for testing, OK?

      • Arthur says:

        Thanks, Bart, for the reply,
Yes, indeed I downloaded right version. I did it twice :-). That’s how badly I need this… :-) THX.

        • teddy58 says:

IMHO – try send plugin file to “root” filder Program files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Plug-ins\Common. For me works.
Przy okazji – duże brawa dla autora – doskonała robota i pełny profesonalizm. Kapelusze z głów!!!

          • BartW says:

            Dzięki wielkie!

You can put it in Premiere folder, but then After Effects will not see the plugin. It might be that if you only have Premiere installed, not the whole Creative Suite, you won’t get MediaCore directory created – I’d have to check. In that case putting it in the folder that you mentioned is perfectly fine.

          • Glenn Zimmerman says:

Have tried every way but Sunday to load feathered crop into CS5 without any luck. Neither Premiere nor AE will see the effects. Only thing I can think of is that Im using OS 10.5.8 Please let me know if that’s the issue or if others may be experiencing problems installing this much needed tool. Certainly driving me nuts.

            Thanks so much.

          • BartW says:

OS 10.5 might possibly be an issue here. The plugins are compiled as 64-bit libraries. You’re not the first person to have problems with CS5 and OS X, but there are also quite a few people using it succesfully in this configuration. I was not able to locate the problem so far. Unfortunately I do not have access to personal Mac platform to chase it.

          • yess!
            thanks teddy!
i had a hard time too!

    Hi Bart,

I’ve discovered a weird rendering issue with Feathered Crop; I’m not sure what is leading to it, exactly, but FC is the tipping point that results in the bad render.

I can send you the project and media file, if it would help in debugging. I think there are two many different circumstances to try and replicate it alone. Shoot me an email and I’ll get it to you. Thanks!

    • BartW says:

Let me know the settings that you use for final render and your platform and OS. There are indeed some problems in certain circumstances.

    • Brandon says:

I think I am having the same issue. There is weird things happening when I go to render it in Windows, Premiere CS6. Funny enough, the same project in CS6 on a Mac seems to have no problem with it. I have tried different computers, etc. for the windows problem and FC seems to be the only common denominator.

On a side note: Bart, THANK YOU for this filter! This has saved me multiple times.

      • BartW says:

Thanks Brandon. If you could send me info about your sequence settings, export settings, and footage codec, privately or here, it would allow me to perhaps locate the bug.

        • shtoomp says:

Hi im having a similar issue, only when i render i see the problem coming up, i have some lines around the picture edited… looks like a bug… im working on AVCHD 1080p sequence… any ideas ?

          • BartW says:

            Send me the screenshots.

          • John Putch says:

When using feathered crop, and then exporting the movie to any codec, I get a flashing picture. See movie file attached to this link. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47364957/Premiere_export_issue.mp4

Using latest premiere pro, mavericks, New Mac Pro. This occurs even when I render this movie file out without text over it.

          • BartW says:

Which Premiere version and what is source footage codec? Try using Maximum Render Quality and Maximum Bit Depth on export. I think for some reason transition on the text might be interfering, though no idea why. Consider nesting the text with transition, see if it helps. Also, is it only on GPU accelerated mode, or in software mode as well?

  5. Really really thank you so much!!!

Dude, you are awesome. I can’t believe how quickly and easily you just solved my problem. I was about to ram my head into the wall over this feather cropping which I took for granted in Final Cut Pro 7. Then a quick internet search led me to this page and the problem was solved in no time. I couldn’t believe it worked. Greatly appreciated.

    • BartW says:

Which version have you downloaded? Make sure it’s the latest for CS5.5, not for CS6 – they are different!

      • Kevin L says:

I’m having the same issue as ‘jc’. I’ve made sure I’ve downloaded the correct version. I’m running Adobe Premiere 5.0.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I also tried it in After Effects, and I get the failure to load warning. No warning in Premiere, the effect simply isn’t there. I’ve also made sure it’s in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS5\MediaCore\

        Any ideas?

        Thank you!
        -Kevin

        • BartW says:

OK, this obviously seems to be an issue for more people. I will try to follow it as soon as I can. So far, I have not been able to resolve it with jc. In the meantime, you can try using standard crop and Roughen Edges filter with smooth edges turned to 100%, it works similarly.

          • Kevin L says:

I didn’t see a “smooth edges” choice in the Roughen Edges filter, but I did change the Border to 16, and the Edge Sharpness down to 0. This seems to work well enough for the project I’m working on. Thank you for your prompt response. It was a great help!!

  9. jc says:

have tried both !! also tried vignette and that wont appear either.
in after effects i get a ‘failed to load’ warning
have re-downloaded several times etc etc
its really frustrating because the plugin appears to be exactly what i need :(

  10. BartW says:

I hope the new version of this plugin solves the issues that you guys have had with it.

    • BartW says:

Those of you having problems running the plugin on Windows – you might need to install Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable package, available at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632

      • Greg A says:

This microsoft app does not want to install since a newer version already exists on my computer???
For me, as with others, the plug-ins are not seen by Windows PPro CS5.

        • BartW says:

The “Microsoft app” is the library of functions, from which the plugin uses a few math ones. If you have it already, then it should not be a problem. I have no idea why the plugin would not show in Premiere if you followed the installation instructions, and have the library installed. Does it show up if you open After Effects?

          • Greg A says:

            Update…
After a couple of reboots the plug-ins appear to have installed in both AE and Premiere Pro CS5…
Thanks Bart, I look forward to trying them out!

            Greg

          • BartW says:

Thanks for the update, Greg! Glad you could get them to work.

Followed your instructions exactly and also loaded C++ redistrib. and did several re-boots of OS
AE got the effect control and it works there but it is not visible in PP 5.03.
Tried to export AE project with the working effect control, but when opening the exported project in PP 5.03 got the message that the named control could not be found.

Hi there, I’m having an interesting issue. I’m running CS6 Premiere, and everything seemed to be working great until I exported the completed film, at which point all of the still images on which I had used the plugin simply weren’t there. When I clicked the “crop inside” button, suddenly they appeared, but the feathering wasn’t actually there. I have no idea what is causing this. Thoughts?

    • BartW says:

Is your footage smaller or larger than your sequence size? Windows or Mac?

      • Matt F. says:

I’m running it on a Mac, and the footage is smaller than the sequence (they’re portrait photographs; it’s a historical documentary).

        • BartW says:

Could you send me a small sample project with 2-3 photographs, so that I could try to replicate it here? Contact data are on the “About me” page. I have a hunch, but I need to confirm it.

Please reinstall these plugins: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-Ins/7.0/MediaCore/CI_feathered_crop.plugin”
Also, when I open up a project in Premiere Pro CC that was started in CS6 with your plugin, I get “Video Filter missing: AE.BW F_Crop” Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    • BartW says:

Weird. Which OS are you on? Is it a new problem (after the update to 7.0.1) or did you have it with 7.0.0 as well?

You might consider downloading them again, if for some reason you mistakenly downloaded the CS5/CS5.5 version.

      • Ben Finkel says:

Thanks for replying so quickly. I thought I would receive an automated email when you replied, so I never checked back. I am on OS X 10.8.4. I don’t know if I had the problem before the update to 7.0.1, because I did not try to open a project using feathered crop before updating. I just redownloaded and reinstalled and it is working great. Thanks so much. Also, I just installed CI Temperature which is awesome!!!

        • BartW says:

Glad it worked for you. I was beginning to worry that new update for OS X did something weird, and since I’m locked on 10.7.5 I would have no way of checking.

    FINALLY!!! THANK YOU!!!

  25. Phil Hall says:

Although, now the video freezes during timeline playback. I’m using Premiere 5.5.2 in Adobe CS5.5. Any issues that need fixing?

    Thanks!

  26. Phil Hall says:

    That’s on a Mac Pro, OS 10.8.5

    • BartW says:

At present moment there is no way I can test this combination, since I lost access to Premiere CS5.5 a few months ago, and on Mac I am locked on 10.7.5 without the ability to upgrade.

However, here are some troubleshooting steps: the very first thing I would try is rendering the offending part – does it render properly and then play correctly? If so, then perhaps it is simply the issue of dropping frames – your CPU is not able to play the footage with the effect applied at the required speed. Are you seeing a red x icon in the lower right corner of the Premiere window? If so, click on it and see if there are any errors. Other than that, I can’t really tell, it used to work pretty well for most of my projects.

BTW, the GPU acceleration will only work on CC, unless there is a huge demand for CS6. I do not plan to support CS5 and CS5.5 in the commercial releases.

      • Phil Hall says:

The project shows it’s rendered, but I did try rendering again to no effect. I repaired disk permissions and still no improvement. I removed the effect from the system, rebooted and still get the video freeze. I’m beginning to suspect it’s something other than the plug-in.

Whatever the case, if I can get it to work, I will love this plug-in for as long as I use Premiere! (I’m an FCP man, but the company I’m working for already had Premiere when I came on board.)

Thanks for your efforts. I’ll let you know when I get the kink worked out.

  27. Phil Hall says:

Had my co-worker help me figure out the fix. Had nothing to do with your plug-in. I had to delete the render files and re-render. I re-installed the plug-in and it works great! Thanks again for your work on this!

I was using feathered crop and vignette in Premiere CC, but recently updated my Mac to Mavericks. I believe it was at that point that the plugins stopped working: I can see them on a clip, but they no longer effect it — my cropped clips now look like they did before I applied Feathered Crop. Are other’s having trouble with Premiere CC and mavericks?

  40. Marco Navarro says:

    Hello, Bart.

I’m currently trying to install feathered crop but it won’t show up in Spanish Premiere CS5.5.2 x64 running on windows 7 x64. I’ve installed visual c++ twice but still won’t work. Digging a little in the computer I found a log file called plugin loading, that states this: Loading C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS5.5\MediaCore\CI_feather_crop.aex
The registry tells us to cache so the plugin will be loaded from the cache.
The plugin is marked as Ignore, so it will not be loaded.

I badly need this tool… Any hints on how to make it work?

    Thank you a lot.

    • BartW says:

      Hi Marco,

Unfortunately, I have no idea how I can help you. I don’t even have CS5.5 installed on my system anymore. You can try trashing your preferences while loading (by pressing shift+alt while starting Premiere), perhaps this will help. Also, make sure that you have downloaded proper version (CS5 one). Beyond that, I really have no idea.

      • Jörn Räuber says:

        Hello Bart, hi everyone,

this might be HELPFUL if these (really great!) plugins DON’T LOAD in PREMIERE CS5.5 on WINDOWS 7.

I have put the .aex files in all mentioned folders, but the plugins didn’t show up in my Premiere CS5.5 (5.2.0).
Then I installed the c++ package (see Bart’s post above), tried, rebooted, tried, re-installed, tried, changed the folders… But nothing worked.
After reading Marco’s post about that ‘Plugin Loading.log’, I checked it and found the same messages in it as Marco described.
It seems like the plugins were disabled in windows registry. (Maybe because of the first try with missing c++ package?)
The solution was quite easy (in my case), I hope it works for some others too:

        – start regedit (click on Windows Start Logo, type “regedit”, I guess you’ll know…)
        – go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.5\PluginCache.64\de_DE\
        – find the registry keys named like the missing plugins and delete the keys (they had “ignore” set to “1”)
        – start premiere and the plugins are there!

Instead of navigating through the registry you can also use the search function of regedit (for example type “CI_feather_crop”), of course.

Many thanks for these very helpful and cool plugins!

        Cheers,
        Jörn

When I go to Export from CS6 premiere the program has started crashing — Adobe Media Encoder fails. I re-installed the plug-in and rebooted. When I moved the Premiere project to another computer, your plug-in appeared as the culprit in export failure. I use Windows 7 on a portable workstation. The plug-in performed flawlessly for two weeks. I can’t imagine why feathered crop now is causing problems. Can you help? Project is due tomorrow.

    • BartW says:

Have you tried exporting to a different codec (other than H264/Mpeg-2) and seeing if it helps? Honestly, I have no idea, but some people did report weird issues from time to time, perhaps there is some bug that causes this. What are your sequence and export settings?

  47. Hello, such a long thread can’t look through it all but I had some install issues also here is the correct path for Mac based op systems using OSX 10.10.01 with Premiere 7.0.
    MacHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore

DO NOT INSTALL IN: MacHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore

I hope this helps, just was my issue. Thank you guys!

  48. Jeff says:

This plug in has been very nice to use. However it would be a lot more useful if it worked with my Media Encoder. CS6 Media Encoder doesn’t appear to understand how to invoke it when I queue up from Premiere. For now I seem stuck with doing direct exports from Premiere. I applied all current patches to Premiere and Encoder last night but still no luck.

  49. Doug says:

Love this plug-in, but I can’t seem to use it anymore. I updated CC last night and all of my CI plugs have disappeared. I’m on OS X 10.10.1 with CC 2014. I’ve tried to put it back in but to no avail. Please help!

    • BartW says:

Make sure these plugins are placed here:
      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore

I have the same config as you do, and all Adobe applications see them without issues.

    • Doug says:

Well, I don’t know why, but my 7.0 and MediaCommon folder were no longer there. I put them back in and reloaded the plug and it worked. I don’t know if this has happened to anyone else, but there’s my problem and solution!

  50. I’m having and issue on Premiere CS6 Windows. I’m feathering a picture just on one side so I can see a video behind it. It looks great while editing (and even after a preview render), but when I exported it the feather is about 90% of the photo instead of the desired 30%. I also have a video feathered in this project which worked perfectly. Any ideas!?

    • BartW says:

Can you see if there is a difference in type of media between these that work and those that don’t? Have you tried turning on maximum render quality? Or maximum bit depth? I need more data to help you.

  51. Jacob says:

Hiya, I just wanted to say thank you for your fantastic work. I’ve been messing around with Premiere CC’s built in “Edge Feather” effect, which for want of a better word, is absolute crap. Preview is different to render, gives a weird feather anyway etc.
I came online to try and find a solution and your plugin has saved the day, and made my life so much easier. The crop inside tickbox is awesome as well, just a fantastic plugin all round! Thank you, keep up the good work!

  52. Jens says:

Hi. Great plugins, thanks. I am having a problem with the feathered crop though. I am working in Adobe Premiere CS6 and when I apply the feathered crop it shows fine if my preview resolution is set to 1/2 or 1/4, but when in full res it is gone and this also happens when I render out my final project.
I have had the plugin working fine in other projects, not sure what is wrong now. My files are ProRes 422 Proxies, which I’ve used before with no problems.
    Any Ideas?

    • Jens says:

Sorry, I must add to that, I have actually not used the crop in Premiere, but in After Effects. I have no problems with it in AE, but now in Premiere the whole clip with the crop applied just doesn’t show at all in the preview.

      • BartW says:

Try turning on “Maximum Bit Depth” and “Use Maximum Render Quality” switch during exporting and for sequence settings.

I don’t understand how to run these. What file am I putting in the mediocre folder? Is it the .plugin file? I don’t get what file exactly is going in there.

  56. Jeff says:

    Hello,

I’ve been looking for what seems like forever for a solution for edge feathers in premiere. Thank you Adobe gods. Alas I am having a problem installing the plugin, the file path is right, I’m running OS X 10.9.5 off of 2.4Ghx intel i7 with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphix card.

    Help!

  57. Matt says:

I was looking for what seems like a reasonably basic effect and yet I could not find it anywhere in Premiere default effects. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this great tool. One word, awesome.

  58. j says:

Wow great! First time I used a plug in actually. Lovely subtle effect. Thanks a million clever people!!

  59. Gabriella says:

    Hello!
unfortunetly the plugin isn’t showing up in my effects. I imported the plugin into the correct file (i think) but nothing is appearing. Im on a mac OS X 10.9.5 using premiere cs6. any ideas of what might be going wrong? Thanks a bunch!

    • BartW says:

Most likely the folder you copied the plug-in to is not correct. Note that there are two “Library” folders – one in your user home folder, and another in the root of your hard drive. You need the latter: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore

  60. jorge says:

hi, thanks a lot for the great work! I used feathered crop before on my premiere6.0 running on mavericks an it’s such a great free tool. Now I’m using a different machine running on elcapitan and I can’t seem to find the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore path. When I reach Common, I can only see media cache and media cache files as folders. What am I missing? Thanks in advance Bart!

    • BartW says:

Hi Jorge. You are most likely seeing the contents of the /Users/username/Library… folder. You need to navigate to the Computer (cmd+shift+c), select your system drive and find the Library folder there.

  61. Liz says:

HI, How can I use this in windows 10?

    • BartW says:

Please follow the installation steps described above. It’s no different in Windows 10 than in any other version.

  62. Mohiuddin says:

I am using CS 5.5. after installation I can’t find any effects under the “Effect” section. My Laptop is ASUS, RAM 4GB and windows 10.

Did you choose another option from the “Fill border with” instead of Transparent?

  64. JM says:

I recently updated by Adobe Premiere CC and both Feathered Crop and Vignette plugins didn’t cross over. Any work arounds this? Had to revert back to the older version of CC to be able to continue using them.

  65. Hi Bart, I currently have recently updated to Premiere Pro CC 2015.3, and I cannot for the life of me get your plugins to show up. The folder structure for Plugins has changed and there is now no 7.0 folder or MeidaCore folder to place the plugins into.

    in the:

Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC/ – there are now two folders “File Format” and “Generator”

I have placed the Feathered Crop and Power Window plugins into both of those folders independently at different times. Didn’t work.

I placed them into their respective subfolder, nothing.

I have tired just placing them into the root Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC/ folder, didn’t work.

I have tried creating CC/7.0/MediaCore/ folders, and that didn’t work either.

I have tried placing them into a CC/MediaCore folder, no dice

I even restarted my computer after each and in-between each attempt and after I copied the files, but no dice.

I am fresh out of ideas of how to get these plug-ins to work, and I am not finding any solutions on forums anywhere.

Please let me know if you figure out the new install method, because I love your plugins! They should be default features in Premiere Pro CC, and it is crazy to me that somethings so commonly used in editing are not present.

    • BartW says:

      Hi Nicholas,

Please use the Library folder that is in the root of the hard drive, eg. /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore, not the one in your user folder. It’s still the same folder, and it is what makes them show up on my system even within CC 2015.3.

  66. MoonE says:

    Hi Bart,

I downloaded CI_feathered_crop.plugin, and when I click on it my command line interface (Terminal for Mac) pops up. I tried typing in “MacHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore” and “cd MacHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore” but Terminal doesn’t recognise the file/directory.

I also tried dragging CI_feathered_crop.plugin into /Applications/Adobe Media Encoder CS6, but Feathered Crop doesn’t show up in Premiere Pro’s Effects, even when I use the search bar. Please help?

    • BartW says:

Try skipping /MacHD at the beginning, and just type cd “/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins” and see if you have CS6, 7.0 or other folders in there.

  67. Christiaan says:

Hi Bart, here’s something I found: On the windows system, when feathered crop is in the plugin directory the export panel in premiere will not show up. Premiere hangs and closes. Export throught the Adobe Media Encoder is going as it should.
When I remove the feather crop plugin, exporting in premiere works fine. When I put back the feather crop plugin, premiere hangs when I hit export.

Thought you might want to know this…
    Best regards,
    Christiaan

  68. Bart Walczak says:

    Interesting. Windows and Premiere versions?

    • Christiaan says:

Windows (7-64bit) newest update from premiere pro.

      • Christiaan says:

Hi Bart, sorry to bother. But I re-installed premiere and after that I putted back the feather crop plugin, and now export was functioning normal.
When there is more to tell you I will do that.
        Best regards, Christiaan.

  69. Hi Bart,
Look through the above thread but didn’t run across this question. I am running MAC OS 10.11.6 Will the Feathered plugin work on this computer in AE CS5.5?
I installed it into the folder you stated, shut down, then restarted the MAC and I don’t see it under the Effects drop down menu.
    Thanks,
    David

    • BartW says:

I honestly have no idea. First, make sure you have the version for CS5.5 downloaded. Then make sure that the folder name is correct and instead of 7.0 or CS6 it is either CS55 or CS5 (don’t remember right now, it’s been ages since I used CS5.5), and that you are putting it into a global library, not the one in your user folder. If this doesn’t work, then I’m afraid I cannot help you.

    • Bart,
Just checked and I had installed the plugins to my old operating system HD which was also attached to my MAC. Installed them into the current operating system HD, and they appear in AE.
      Sorry for the previous post.
      David

  70. Thank you so much for this! Absolutely essential & works perfectly.

Hello! I love the feathered crop plugin and used it many times, but it disappeared in my computer (maybe because I updated it or because I was in CS6 before). So now I use Premiere CC with a Mac, OSX Yosemite. I downloaded it again and when I open the zip file, it goes directly to the terminal..and it does not get installed. Any ideas on what is going on? Thank you! Esther.

    • BartW says:

Take a look at the installation instructions on the website. You must unzip it and copy it to the MediaCore folder

      • jazmin13 says:

Hello! thanks for the quick reply Bart. But the only thing showing up when i unzip is the terminal with this text: “Last login: Thu Aug 24 15:35:08 on ttys000

Is this what I am suppose to be pasting in the mediacore folder?
Also, if I try to find the MediaCore folder…is nowhere in my computer…(?)
        thanks again!!!

    Hi Bart,

I’m using premiere pro cc 2017.
I’ve downloaded and unzipped the file just fine and extracted it ok to my [media core plugin] folder but nothing appears in my effects tab in Prem Pro. Has anything changed in terms of updated instructions?.

Thanks in anticipation of you being able to help.

    • Chris Brookes says:

DOH!! I extracted to my AE program files instead of PP. Now all sorted and works just fine. Really great tool – thanks.

  75. Tonya Reed says:

    Hi Bart,

I am using premiere pro cc 2018 and I am updated to the latest Mac OS High Sierra 10.13. I downloaded the CI Feather Crop plugin for CS6. I unzipped and it is on my desk top. When I try and add it to the presets folder in Adobe the plugin is greyed out and I can not select it to import. I followed the thread and added it to my media core folder as instructed. When I located the media folder there was a version 7.0 but not CS6 so I created one and tried that as well. I even tried importing the plug in from the media core folder directly instead of my desk top to adobe, but still the same greyed out result. Any advice on what I should try next?

  76. Mario S says:

Would be awesome if we could rotate the angle of the feathered crop, not have it to be horizontal or vertical but also option for diagonal

    • BartW says:

      Hi Mario,

This would be a totally different plugin from the coding perspective. If you want a diagonal mask, you can use the Simple Mask plugin, which allows for such a modifications. Or use masking native to Premiere Pro CC, if you do have access to it.

  77. Tymothi Loving says:

Hello, thanks for the great plug-in! I use it a lot in Premiere Pro, but now that I’ve updated to PP 12.01, while the cropping always works in preview, when I export to a file the various sections of video are inconsistently colored around the crop. The picture is still cropped, but sometimes the border is colored the way I selected and as was shown in the preview, and sometimes it’s just black. I can’t find consistent repro steps on this, sorry. Sometimes removing and re-applying fixes it for a while, sometimes it doesn’t. I usually do a colored border with limit border set to on and a fixed with of 3, crop left and right set to 1%, top and bottom set to .5%, all else default. I’ve tried changing all of those things, with inconsistent results. Anyway, I was just wondering if you’re seeing something similar.

  78. Stargazer says:

Cheers mate for a very useful facility (the Feathered Crop) and a very good job indeed!

I just donated a fistful of $ through PayPal and I think everyone and anyone who find the plugins on this site helpful should do the same (I’m sure you can spare a few bucks to show your support and appreciation).

So keep up the good work and good luck to you!

    Cheers again,
    Stargazer

I’ve used this great plug in earlier versions, but I recently upgraded to Mac os Sierra and Premiere 12.1.2. I have put the plugin in the MediaCore folder inside the 7.0 folder and it wont show up in Premiere, and I get an error now when i start up After Effects 2018. I REALLY love this plug. can you help?

  80. godstime says:

pls kindly tell me how to download it from my mac system. i click on it but is not downloading. thank you.

Hello, The download links just circle around the webpages and do not actually start a download….is there a way to still get this preset? Thanks!

  82. batko90 says:

Hi, where can I find Windows version? The link does not work anymore.

  83. BartW says:

    Hi everyone,

The download link should be fixed now. Apologies.

  84. Beverly says:

Is this feather plug-in still working? I downloaded it but am only getting the file for After Effects, not for Premiere.

    • BartW says:

Yes, Premiere uses After Effects plug-in as well. Just make sure you copied it to the MediaCore plug-in folder and After Effects, Premiere and Media Encoder will find it.

  85. Jordan M Blake says:

Hey there, having a problem where feathered crop is keeping the new Premiere 2021 from opening because it “can’t be identified as not malware” and when I look for it in application support to delete it, the plug in isn’t there.

    • BartW says:

Thanks for the heads up. Is this on Windows or on a Mac? I should probably update the plugins, but at this point I can’t tell when I’ll have the time and energy to do it. I have my hands full with my day job.

  86. Chris says:

Hi Bart, I also have problems with the feathered crop plugin in the latest version of PP. I use it on a photoshop psd layer. With the effect on… it will not render (nor view in the program monitor) . With the effect disabeled the files is showed fine.
I have to find a workaround for now.
I hope you will be able to update the plugin.
When needed we can pay a little to support you doing this work.

All the best! We are looking forward to hearing from you.

  87. Chris says:

Update: Ive uninstalled the newest version of premiere (22.1.1) and went back to 22.0 and now the plugin works again.

  88. Chris says:

    Update: Not your fault Bart.
That version of Premiere pro was not good.
As we can read here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/plugin-issue-with-premiere-pro-v22-1-1/td-p/12599673

  89. Christiaan says:

Hi Bart… in the link below adobe supposes that your plugin is not up do date.
I doubt it… because it worked fine in 22.0 and not in 22.1.2

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/welcome-to-premiere-pro-22-1-2/m-p/12612422#M385829

I hope this can be solved.
I use you plugin a lot in designing styles in my video’s.

    Best regards, Christiaan

    • BartW says:

      Hi,

Yes, it’s possible that I would need to update the plugin with the most recent version of Adobe’s SDK (a library used to build plugins). I might give it a shot this holiday season, but no guarantees.

      Thanks for the heads up.

      • Christiaan says:

I do not know If i am the only one with this problem… but maybe the comunity can help you with small payments for an update to this plugin…

        • BartW says:

I’ve looked at the projects which are over 8 years old now and I would have to rebuild most of them. Bad news is that it’s not really a matter of money, I’m spending too much time in front of the screen wrangling code these days, which is draining all of my creativity, and it’s just really very tough to do side projects such as this one. Update is on the list of TODOs, but no telling when I will be able to pick it up. Apologies.

  90. dcmouser says:

I’m here to write about the same problem – I depend on FeatheredCrop and it’s not working in latest version of Adobe Premiere). I’ve donated in the past to you for this wonderful too. I hope you can find a solution, we’re lost without it! -jesse

  91. dcmouser says:

Huge fan of Feathered Crop (even donated in the past). The new Adobe Premiere release (22.1.2) still seems to break Feathered Crop. If there’s any way to fix it, it would be so appreciated. Can’t live without my Feathered Crop.

  92. BartW says:

Guys, if you email me privately (see info in about me), I can send you the working version of updated Feathered Crop. It might be a moment before it makes its way to the website, because I need to update website info, links, etc. and it will take a while.

  93. dcmouser says:

Just a note to say Bart’s new version works PERFECTLY. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for fixing it so quickly, Bart — we are lucky to have your tools.
    Donating again now.

  94. Deartech says:

    Thank you very much.
